Consider a Rowing Machine for Upper Body Fitness
November 17, 2009 Posted by
There is a dizzying array of fitness equipment available out there. Much of it works great but some not so much so. The relatively simple rowing machine is becoming ever more popular because, when used properly, it delivers a good quality upper body workout. As a single exercise regimen, or as a part of an expanded fitness routine, you may be surprised by the results.
As is the case with any exercise program you first have to begin using your rowing machine. Then, you need to stay with it to see progress. Over time you will notice a marked improvement in the look and feel of the chest, shoulder, lower arm and upper leg areas. It’s worth the effort so start now and stay with it.
While you are building and toning the muscles you are also losing fat weight. The exercise itself requires energy so you are burning calories. Also, lean muscle replaces fat. Fat tissue just “sits there.” Muscles need nutrients so the calorie burn process continues after the workout is over. To what degree depends of course on how rigorous the workout is.
Yet another benefit of exercise your personal trainer might tell you about, and this includes rowing, is stress relief. It’s a two sided coin. First, exercise releases chemicals into the bloodstream that relaxes and settles us. There is ample medical evidence to prove this. Additionally, the improvement in our appearance from the rowing machine program has a positive influence on the level of our overall self esteem.
Inspiration for the rowing machine comes from rowing a boat. Since ancient times rowing has been an important form of transportation. Today, in most places, it’s often more thought of in conjunction with recreation or fitness. Still, from an exercise point of view using a rowing machine is very similar to rowing a boat. The boat (or the machine) meets resistance when motion is attempted. That requires energy to be expended which in turn burns calories. Over time the muscles improve their size and tone to handle the work more efficiently.
Know how your rowing machine works and use it correctly. This is appropriate for any piece of fitness equipment. Not only will you get more out of your workout but you’ll be safer in the process.
The rowing machine, again like all fitness equipment, comes in a variety of styles and features. One of the best features is a digital output display. The price is higher but it’s worth it. It will read out how fast you are going, how far you have gone, how long you have worked and perhaps most important, how many calories have been burned.
If you have been interested in a rowing machine but were put off by the space they take up, look again at the choices. Today, there are many models that fold up and can be conveniently stored when not in use.
In addition to space be sure to consider other factors in your purchase decision. Price, of course, is important. Also, you want it to be comfortable since you will hopefully use it often. It needs to be well built for safety and longevity.
Take a little time to understand the available choices. Choose the one that works best for your situation. Make your purchase and then start using it. You’ll soon see why a rowing machine is a good choice in fitness equipment.

Considerations when Purchasing a Fireplace
February 16, 2009 Posted by
Before purchasing any fireplaces, you need to consider a few aspects beforehand that could affect what kind of fireplace you will be installing. If you are buying a fireplace for a new home or a currently under construction home, this will be much easier to consider as your plans should have already included a location and design for your fireplace. If you are adding a fireplace to an existing home, then things can be a bit more complicated as you will need to accommodate and adapt to the design of the home you have. Your first questions should concern the chimney, such as do you have one? Is the chimney in good repair? If there is no chimney you can consider utilising a wall where the fireplace can vent directly outside or perhaps even a vent free fireplace. Read the rest of this entry »
Why Repipe with Copper?
December 11, 2008 Posted by
If you live in an older home, you may start noticing some things about your pipes and your water pressure. You might notice that your water pressure isn’t as strong as it once was. Maybe your water looks a little off color, or maybe you smell something odd around your sink every now and then. Generally, these things will all develop over time—rarely do pipes burst and flood your basement or home. However, they can all indicate that it’s time for a copper repiping. Wheelchair Stair Lifts
December 8, 2008 Posted by
Wheelchair stair lifts are generally created from a more durable material than routine stair lifts, and are not usually located directly on a staircase like most seated chair lifts. The construction technique used to install wheelchair stair lifts is also usually heavier than the more traditional stair lifts. These devices do not run parallel to the stairs like the smaller stair lifts but rather use a platform and are usually found slightly to the side of the stairs. A flat wheelchair lift can be installed directly over the staircase like the seated stair lifts, but when this is done it is very difficult for others to walk up and down the stairs unless it is an extremely wide area.
Unlike traditional lift systems, wheelchair stair lifts are open and are usually used to assist people with a disability to move from one floor to the next where there is no established lift or where there is only a metre or two between floors. The wheelchair lift generally has side panels that can sometimes fold out to act like a ramp so that the wheelchair can easily move from one area to another. It also helps to make sure that there are no gaps between the lift door and the floor that they are getting out on, which also reduces the risk of wheels getting stuck or the chair not manoeuvring as it should.

Ms Valentine, of Goring, Oxfordshire, who is celebrating her 19th birthday, said the interest highlighted the power of social networking sites.
She said she had the idea in January on a night out and within weeks her group had about 60,000 members.
